Pearls & Brass are commonly tagged "stoner rock," yet the Pennsylvania-based power trio takes most of its cues not from Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin, but Cream and Groundhogs. Pearls & Brass, much like those latter two groups, tempers its blues-rock crunch-n-shimmy with arty songwriting and light touches of psychedelia. But make no mistake about it: hardcore groove research is what these dudes are all about. The rhythmic gymnastics Pearls & Brass pull off on tracks such as "Highway Sermon," "Train Lady Blue" and "The Greenest Gray" will be breathtaking for any true fan of the heavy stuff.
