Baker was stoned out of his mind during his entire late 1950s NYC tenure, so that may explain why his usually warm tone is thin and lines are herky-jerky. That said, this is still a pretty solid session, thanks to a tight ensemble (Philly Joe Jones, Paul Chambers, Al Haig and hard-hitting sax marvel Johhny Griffin) that works well together.
