Tony Orlando was a promo man thinking of giving up his career as a solo artist when he hooked up with Bell records and a girl group called Dawn. This led to hits like "Candida" and "Knock Three Times." The jaunty folk of "Tie a Yellow Ribbon" remains his signature track, although its thinly-veiled rewrite, "Say, Has Anyone Seen My Sweet Gypsy Rose?" is just as good.
