Flogging Molly's first effort may lack some of the finesse of their later works, but let's face it: these guys aren't revered for their subtlety. Just the opposite, in fact. With a revved-up tempo and an impressive array of instruments, Flogging Molly successfully blend elements of d.i.y. punk with traditional Celtic sounds for an inspired, anthemic result not too unlike the Pogues. Blistering numbers such as "Salty Dog," "Black Friday Rule" and "Far Away Boys" ensure that Swagger is the ultimate in a sloppy, chaotic good time.
