The two biggest bands in the world sing a 1978 punk tune by Scottish act the Skids to celebrate the re-opening of New Orleans' Superdome. The way this track's calm beginnings (atmospheric piano chords, Billie Joe's voice like a child's singing "Amazing Grace") ignite into slamming snare hits, the Edge's stratospheric guitars and Bono/Billie's tandem primal screams of "The saints are coming/ The saints are coming!" on the chorus feels as powerful as Katrina was catastrophic. This is a clarion call -- to care a little more, to do a little more, to slouch toward salvation in the face of great challenge (all proceeds benefit the Edge's Music Rising foundation). How sweet the sound.
