Even if the Shins' first single from Wincing the Night Away makes no radical departures, the decidedly Smiths-influenced tune about slacking away afternoons on porches with "goat head tunes and pilfered booze" is a preamble to the lovely melancholy of their third LP. When the lofty tune floats away on a repeated chorus of "oohs," it's soaked in enough reverberating sweetness to lull us in a sleepy, sunlit daze.
