To call Dulce Pontes a fado singer is to miss the point a little. Yes, she is Portuguese and her voice is beautifully suited to fado. But Pontes is something of a musical omnivore who can evoke Cassandra Wilson as easily as Amalia Rodrigues. Start with "Fado-Mae," "Suite Da Terra," the carnivalesque "Ai Solidum" and the morna duet with Waldemar Bastos, "Velha Chica."
