El Palacio De Las Flores
Released: Nov 2006
The prolific giant of Argentinean rock throws down the gauntlet (yet again) with a plump, 17-track album of new and recent compositions that many fans will consider a return to form. And in some respects, it is. "Mi Bandera," Calamaro's tribute to Atahualpa Yupanqui, is affecting, as is the quiet, finger-picked "El Palacio De Las Flores." But he makes so many hits, referencing genres from tango and bossa nova to Argentinean folk, that there are a few inevitable misses. Such is the price -- and it's ultimately a small one -- of a sprawling album from a classic artist.
