Billy Joel finally tries his hand at straight, smoky jazz with this perfect, soft-focus number. Gentle sentimentality and dignified soul-baring may not be terms often associated with Joel's main body of work, but that is just what makes "All My Life" worth hearing. He may not be gaining any new fans here, but at least it isn't "We Didn't Start the Fire."
