He's best known as Baaba Maal's kora player, but Cissokho broke new ground with this 1999 solo release. The ethereal kora could slide into new age territory, but this doesn't: songs like "Douwayra Podor" literally throb with energy (and amazing time signatures), while the instrument sounds like a full orchestra, supported by bass, drums and a female chorus.
