Concierto de Aranjuez; Fantasia
Joaquin Rodrigo
Released:
Aug 2007
Label:
Philips
This album serves as a great introduction to Joaquin Rodrigo's most popular guitar compositions. Conductor Neville Marriner leads Pepe Romero through the Aranjuez concerto, raising the energy in all the right places. The Gentilhombre for whom Rodrigo composed the second concerto is Andres Segovia, who popularized classical guitar. Folk melodies are spread throughout this lush arrangement, notably the Canarios of the closing movement. After the orchestra leaves, Romero moves on to some ambitious solo works, including the virtuosic Invocacion y danza.
