El Lilady may have suffered from multiple producers, delays and squabbling, but none of it shows up on the final product. The album sold two million copies right off the bat in the Middle East, and Diab sounds as breezily passionate as ever, whether he's singing over a cloaked reggaeton beat (!), an arabicized bossa nova or a house club-burner. (He even breaks out a very disguised tango on the title track.) You gotta give it to him -- the guy's versatile. He's also found common ground between European, American and Middle Eastern pop music -- quite a feat in our fractured world.
