Featuring recordings made just before Miller's tragic death in a car accident in 1980 and beefed up by guest appearances from Denis Brown, Sly Dunbar and I-Roy, among others, Jacob Miller Lives On showcases the reggae star's work with producer Joe Gibbs and well illustrates the versatility he commanded as a singer -- crooning on "Keep on Knocking" (with U Brown), laying down a tough guy wailer routine on "I Am A Natty/Knotty Knots" and taking a back seat to Augustus Pablo's melodica on "Above Rocks." The album is rounded out by several dubs and extended mixes of the original tapes.
