Lien is a heavyweight of Norwegian fiddling, and her work on this 1994 release feels formal and nearly classical. Her fiddle -- whether it's the modern instrument or the traditional hardingfele -- is an insistent presence, frequently underpinning itself with a drone but also recalling Celtic fiddling in its bright, easy manner.
