El Loco
ZZ Top
Released:
Oct 1981
Label:
Warner Bros.
With some understated synthesizers and slightly slick '80s production, ZZ Top's seventh album is a sign of things to come, specifically the revolutionary paradigm shift and massive success of Eliminator in 1983. It's the same old ZZ Top, though, meaning "Tube Snake Boogie" is actually surfer slang -- it doesn't mean what you think it means -- but "Pearl Necklace" definitely does mean what you think it means, and is filthy. "Ten Foot Pole" features some of Billy Gibbons' finest mush-mouth vocals, which is saying a lot.
