These Hydra Head newcomers combine drone metal fundamentals with shoegazing technique, resulting in sometimes new-age tranquility, sometimes experimentally dissonant black walls of sound. Invoking Sigur Ros and Mogwai comparisons on one hand and Sunn O))) and Boris on the other, Pyramids are not fully in either realm, but offer a new direction for experimental metal to explore. Layered effects, heavy distortion and fluid echoes of vocal choruses blur together until the starting point of each song becomes intangible and the ending points become unreachable.
