It's a good thing that Assalto doesn't start with "Reina de los Angelitos," because the Juanes similarities might have pigeonholed Huecco as a mere imitator. He's much more than that. Spain is notoriously conservative in its musical tastes, but Spanish fans have embraced Huecco, whose muscular use of rumba, cumbia and many other Latin American styles is always underpinned with bodice-ripping, flamenco-influenced rock singing. Like its name, Assalto is an almost overwhelming display of songwriting competence. The pace rarely lets up, but such talent doesn't need to take a break just yet.
