It may sound crazy to match Gilberto (whose breathy vocals alternately sound sexy, sensitive, or banal) with highbrow jazz arranger Gil Evans, but this is one of the singer's best sessions. Evans' sweeping, brooding charts sound magnificent coupled with Brazilian percussion and Astrud's feathery voice. The CD adds tracks from the A Certain Smile sessions.
