Rodriguez is often hailed as the lost Detroit Dylan. And while "Establishment Blues" echoes the stream-of-consciousness, mental diarrhea of "It's Alright Ma," the fuzzed-out guitar intro for "Only Good for Conversation" sounds ripped from Pipers at the Gates, and lyrics that investigate the "factories of the mind" and the "purple sea of doubt" mirror the vast, desolate inner space that Syd Barrett floated through. The dark, tattered psychedelia of "Sugar Man," Rodriguez's ode to "jumpers, coke and sweet Mary Jane," is the most immediate track here, but there are gems throughout.
