Big, dirty riffs played for keeps by a guy who also sings, screams and hoots like the only music he ever heard was made before the '50s. Gut-wrenching slide guitar and primal drum assaults intertwine to create some fine punked-up, folk-blues, especially on the stomping "Astro." The duo's 1999 debut shows that Jack and Meg knew what they were doing right out of the gate.
