Right out of the gate, Em was the nasty white trash thug out to expose America's dirty little secrets: the delusions of morality, romance and politics; the policy of neglect toward issues of race and class; the monotony and despair of the middle American existence. On tracks like "Slim Shady," "Role Model" and "If I Had," he lunges face-first into these themes. He's stupid, destructive, juvenile and honest, and for a society steeped in repression, that was enough to start a minor revolution.
