Sunday At Devil Dirt
Isobel Campbell

The first duets album by Isobel Campbell and Mark Lanegan was a surprisingly atmospheric and deep collection. The magic continues here on this follow-up. The main sonic templates are the same -- Leonard Cohen by way of Lee Hazelwood and Nancy Sinatra, though the mood is even more lugubrious this time out. Campbell is the main songwriter here and her work is rich and varied. The songstress' coos pepper Lanegan's somber growls with some much needed hope. It's not all sin without salvation though, "Come On Over (Turn Me On)" and "Hang On" are positively euphoric pop.
