Boney James
Released:
Feb 2009
Label:
Concord Records
Boney James's buttery sax style is only a part of what make his releases regularly top the smooth jazz charts. James balances a '70s jazz vibe with a deep feel for R&B, one of the reasons his tunes are played as often on urban contemporary radio as on smooth jazz stations (the man even has a Soul Train award to prove it). This time out, James sounds as relaxed and romantic as ever, and his backing band is first rate. Boney & Co. are even selfless enough to support a new vocalist, Quinn, who offers up a fine Al Green-style reading of "Don't Let Me Be Lonely Tonight."
