Coming off of a Grammy nomination, this young keyboard wizard continues to grow, flitting between jaw-dropping dexterity and lyrical beauty ("Iris," "Estate" and "Lullabye Fantazia" are all ballads where the emotion of the music carries the day). Eldar, already a jazz veteran, was a mere 22 years old when recording this outing and, like many younger musicians, he loves dazzling with technique. That said, while he obviously loves lightning-quick runs and abrupt chord changes, he is also a thoughtful bandleader who lets his trio and star guests Joshua Redman and Nicholas Payton shine.
