Recorded when the original members (Peter Gabriel, Tony Banks, Mike Rutherford, Anthony Phillips and John Silver) were between the ages of 16 and 18, From Genesis to Revelation bears almost none of the marks of the opulent prog rock that was to follow. With truly unfortunate overdubbed strings added without the band's knowledge and a set of songs that basically try to fit in with the pop-rock of 1969 (think tambourines and flanged guitars), there isn't a whole lot for fans to grab onto here. That said, if you can block out the strings, "In the Wilderness" is a pretty good song.
