The Eight Legged Groove Machine
The Wonder Stuff
Released:
Jan 1988
Label:
Decca International
When Eight Legged Groove Machine was released in 1988, the Wonder Stuff became media darlings, mostly thanks to frontman Miles Hunt. With his long curly hair and deep dimples, Hunt looked like a choirboy, but his sneering delivery and acerbic lyrics were more devil child. His sarcasm meshed well with the band's brash power pop, which buzzed with a punkish ferocity. Twenty years later, some of the vocal remixes on this anniversary edition aren't as sharp as the originals, but songs like "No for the 13th Time," "Unbearable," "Who Wants to Be the Disco King" and "Astley's in the Noose" still hold up.
