1977 slides down easily -- sometimes too easily, as half the album can pass before you realize nothing has made you sit up and mouth "wow." Yes, it makes for a gently rolling sea when your inspirations are jazz-hop with a side of D'Angelo, but Tijoux's butter-wouldn't-melt-in-her-mouth style is seductive, if perhaps swallowed up by a lack of variation. The Chilean-French artist is no less impressive despite her shortcomings (if pleasurable music is indeed a shortcoming), and she creams most American female emcees on sight. She's even better in French.
