Jimmy Webb, the one-time wunderkind of late 1960s/early '70s songwriting, brings brilliant numbers such as "Galveston," "Wichita Lineman" and "By the Time I Get to Phoenix" to Nashville. Webb hails from Bakersfield, so there's always been a strong country feel in his music and Western heartbreak in his narratives. You can guess Webb's appeal by just looking at the guest list: Willie Nelson, Lucinda Williams, Billy Joel, Mark Knopfler, Jackson Browne (on the sublime "P.F. Sloane"), Linda Ronstadt and, of course, Glen Campbell, who originally scored major hits with Webb-penned songs.
