Electro-funk comes alive on Push Me Pull You, the second album from Toob. Red Snapper's Rich Thair and Jakeone (guitar, bass, vocals, keyboards) manage to make synth-heavy disco punk sound surprisingly fresh, combining the ambling arpeggios of Philip Glass with a funky low-end and a bright-eyed acoustic touch reminiscent of early Four Tet. There's something undoubtedly English about it, from the sampled crows' calls to the breakbeat-influenced drumming; opener "Treetop Frequency" feels like dancing in sidewalk puddles just as the sun comes soaring over the wet London skyline.
