Musically, Kate Voegele works a spectrum that belies her 24 years, a mature aesthetic that ranges from sleepy alt-country to sweet, sunny adult-alt as mellow as a day at the beach. Despite her sonic sensible shoes, however, her lyrics are those of an angsty young thing, with verses about boys and dresses that are just a wee bit cringeworthy at times. Sometimes you wish she'd quit trying to be such a grownup and give in to the dark side of pop. But then a track like "Impatient Girl" kicks the country-pop twang, which suits her throaty vocals, into high gear and suddenly it all makes sense.
