White Crosses is just the second major-label record for these punk vets since signing to Sire in 2006, but Against Me! still pound out the hyper, earnest Social D-gone-heartland-rock they've long been known for. "Because of the Shame" opens with a piano, but that just shows how punk has changed over the years -- or maybe somebody needs to set Against Me! on fire for defiling the genre. In any case, fans will no doubt enjoy yelling along with Tom Gabel's no-nonsense, politically-charged poetry slamming. "I Was a Teenage Anarchist" says it all but "Suffocation" may be the best song on the album.
