Johnny Boy Would Love This... A Tribute To John Martyn

John Martyn was a massive talent, one with a love for experimentation. It's only fitting that this tribute album is a wildly sprawling listen that boasts both abrupt shifts in style and a seriously diverse assortment of artists. What other compilation out there contains contributions from blues-rocker Joe Bonamassa, Beck, Phil Collins, indie-folkies Vetiver and The Cure's Robert Smith? Speaking of Smith, he turns in what just might be the best piece here, an utterly gorgeous version of "Small Hours" that sounds like a cross between The Cure and Spirit of Eden-era Talk Talk -- no lie.
