These uncouth Minneapolis chaps are precisely the sort of American rock band that gets way more popular in the U.K.: unkempt, stupidly clever (see "Pythagorean Fearem"), clearly indebted to The Strokes. America Give Up (fantastic title) is charming in its misanthropy, twisting around the current surfing-songs-sung-by-non-surfers vogue to their own obnoxious ends (yes, "Beach Sluts"). Distorted guitars, peppy handclaps, deceptively tender songs about making out. This flirts with Psychocandy fuzz-pop transcendence; at worst, they still seem like cooler people than the dude from Wavves.
