For this second volume, the talent pool consists of leaner and meaner artists: mavericks whose music captures the spirited essence of outlaw country -- and are most indebted to Jennings and the trails he blazed. Josh Thompson puts an up-tempo, near celebratory spin on the epic downer "Love of the Common People," while Justin Moore amps up the already driving "I Ain't Living Long Like This" with a jolt of AC/DC-style electric guitars. Fellow Texans Pat Green and Jack Ingram also deliver highlights, as does Jewel with a beautiful, delicate version of the waltzing "Dreaming My Dreams With You."
