In spite of the title, the most striking thing about Paul van Dyk's sixth studio album might be how faithful it remains to the German trance pioneer's longstanding take on the genre. While big-ticket acts are increasingly bending their sounds towards electro-house and dance pop, Evolution sticks to the uplifting chords and pumping, four-to-the-floor rhythms with which van Dyk's name is synonymous. Every track features a collaboration, from Russian trance star Arty to Owl City's Adam Young, suggesting that part of evolving is learning to play well with others.
