Last year’s MMG compilation benefited from hit singles like Meek Mill’s “Tupac Back” and “Ima Boss,” and Wale’s “That Way.” It also had head honcho Rick Ross’ undivided attention, which doesn’t seem to be the case with Self Made Vol. 2. Distracted by work on a new solo album due in the fall, Ross’ verses sound rote and uninspired here. But Wale delivers on “Power Circle,” and Meek Mill holds his own on “Black Magic,” as does Stalley on “The Zenith.” Judging from the mediocre R&B track “Let’s Talk,” new MMG member Omarion continues to struggle in his post-teen-heartthrob career.
