On Land, originally released in 1982, is the final installment in Eno's landmark Ambient series. Although the multimedia artist had found a way to draw the organic from heavily synthesized music, this album finds him turning toward darkness. There's something slyly unsettling about On Land; it's almost as if some kind of A.I.-derived menace seeped into Eno's machinery. Contributing to this overall feeling is the presence of proto-industrial instruments such as sticks, chains and stones.
