Daddy Yankee

This collection attempts to trace the roots and routes of today's hottest dance genres to earlier Caribbean genres in general and reggae in particular, or so goes the press release. But what you get is, well, a lot of reggaeton, plus dancehall star Elephant Man and Zaire's rumba odemba innovator, Franco "El Gorilla." That's not a bad thing; all the heavy hitters are here, and if they don't know how to get a party started, we don't know who does. But the choicest nuggets come from artists who are lesser known (at least stateside): Eddie Dee's "Black or White" and Gocho's "Caribena."
