The vinyl archaeologists at Stones Throw deliver another batch of rare funk. Compiled from out-of-print 45s from 1968 to 1974, Cold Heat serves as a fitting follow-up to the label's acclaimed Funky Corners disc. Detroit Sex Machine threaten to steal the show with the trashy, garage funk of "The Stretch," and Michael Liggins' clomping "Loaded to the Gills" adeptly reconstructs the devil-may-care intensity of a two-day drinking binge.
