The Futureheads

Like a Hot Topic manager's mix tape blasting from the mall, the fourth mix of songs showcased on The O.C. is loaded with hipster ear candy. Matt Pond P.A.'s string-laden version of Oasis' "Champagne Supernova" treads Ryan Adams territory, while Beck's "Scarecrow" serves up yet another funky helping of word salad.

The OC sounds hipper than it looks: It's debatable whether the moody likes of Scotland's
the Reindeer Section reflect something intangible about the show's fantasy of Orange
County, but still it's refreshing to hear TV erring on this side of offbeat with bouncy tracks
by the Futureheads, the New Pornographers leader A.C. Newman, Beck, Pinback and
Modest Mouse.
