Alice Donut

About

With the grating and screeching vocals of Tomas Antona shoved to the forefront of the music, Alice Donut proved that perseverance may lead to a certain level of respect amongst your musical peers, but not necessarily to commercial success. The band emerged from New York City in 1989 and, with the urging of the Dead Kennedy's Jello Biafra, quickly released two albums of Punk (often bordering on joke) rock for Biafra's Alternative Tentacles label. In 1990, Mule saw the band refining its sound to resemble more standard Punk -- if you could call anything from the band standard -- though the lyrical content remained full of social lampooning. On later LPs, like Revenge Fantasies of the Impotent in 1991, the band hit its artistic stride with a three guitar attack and a calmed, less frenzied lead vocal by Antona. The band called it quits in 1995, but reunited in 2003 to unleash the Three Sisters album.
