Description of Brit Rock

British Rock artists of the 1990s shared the guitar-focus of 1960s forerunners like the Kinks and the Who, while sharing a contemporary edge with their Brit Pop brethren. Oasis front man Noel Gallagher has cited both Paul Weller of the Jam and Revolver-era Beatles as prime influences for his more rock-oriented material, while Weller himself -- now a solo artist -- remains a vital force within this school. Other preeminent bands include Radiohead, whose experimental twist on the British Rock template has earned them worldwide accolades, as well as Wales' Manic Street Preachers, a trio who have muddled through tragedy and numerous stylistic shifts to become massive stars throughout Britain.
