Description of Slowcore

The 1990s Slowcore movement was in part a reaction to the bombastic elements of Grunge and electronica. Bands like Low and Codeine worked spare, ominous guitar lines and vocals, leaving plenty of breathing room between notes and lyrics. Indeed, Slowcore is as much about negative space as anything else. Although usually dominated by electric instrumentation, Slowcore can also take on an almost folk-like quality when played acoustically -- see Red House Painters' Songs for a Blue Guitar.
