About

Glendora, California native Anna Nalick's journey from aspiring singer/songwriter to recording artist was incredibly brief. Inspired by the Cranberries and Fiona Apple, Nalick started dabbling in songwriting in the fifth grade. Throughout high school, she sang in several bands, including a Rush cover act. After graduating high school, the prolific songwriter enrolled in college and recorded several of her songs on a very low-fi tape recorder. A family friend passed the tape to former Blind Melon band members and current producers Brad Smith and Christopher Thorn, who were impressed by maturity of the songwriting and recorded Nalick. The recordings attracted the interest of Columbia Records and soon she was on her way to recording her debut, 2004's Wreck of the Day. The song "Breathe (2am)," with its dominant piano, clipped Tori Amos-style vocal phrasing and lush production, garnered radio play and broke her to wide audiences.
