Rhapsody

Archie Shepp's 1972 album dives right into the music that was closest to his heart. Opening with the hard R&B and gospel mix of "Rest Enough" and then continuing through the big band spiritual sweep of "A Prayer," Shepp was able to present a riveting portrait of the world around him by mixing up transcendental free jazz, soul and gospel with big band arrangements.
