Wild-Eyed Southern Boys
by .38 Special
Released: Jan 1981
With Southern rock in their bones, .38 Special folded a dose of AOR glitz into their fourth album. The result was the first of their two signature hits, "Hold on Loosely." Regardless of any streamlining, there are Skynyrd-friendly guitars all over Wild-Eyed Southern Boys, and singer-guitarist Donnie Van Zant (Ronnie's younger brother) more than lives up to his bloodline. The best part of the album may be when Donnie whistles during the title cut -- a clear reference to Skynyrd's "Saturday Night Special," and a touching homage to his fallen brother.
