Fire Away
Ozomatli
Released:
Apr 2010
Label:
Mercer Street Records
After a couple of releases that felt like they were trying too hard, the band seems to have rediscovered -- rather than manufactured -- its sense of fun. At 11 songs, 36 minutes, Fire Away is not a long album, which makes sense. Here the grand Ozo is making pop music. You know: snappy, fun, rock 'n' roll in spirit, and sometimes even in sound. They ape Mermaid Ave-era Wilco on the sweetly goofy "Gay Vatos in Love" and find a hot groove on every other song, be it a ballad, a Jack Johnson collabo ("It's Only Paper"), or the frenetic banda romp "Caballito."
