Frank Marino & Mahogany Rush
Canadian guitarist Frank Marino formed Mahogany Rush in 1971. A power trio deeply influenced by Jimi Hendrix, the group released albums throughout the '70s, with Marino's fluid guitar playing taking center stage. Along with that six-string style, his freak-flag vocals and penchant for slowed-down spoken overdubs and lyrics about space, olden times and spiritual/magical women, all seemed directly lifted from Hendrix. The resemblances are so uncanny that some say Hendrix's ghost inhabits Marino's body. Marino himself denies this. In the '80s, the band became known as Frank Marino & Mahogany Rush. Then Marino began releasing solo albums: Full Circle in 1986, From The Hip in 1990. In 2000, Mahogany Rush returned with Eye Of The Storm.
