Not really indie, not totally mainstream -- that's where singer-songwriter Alison Sudol (a.k.a. A Fine Frenzy) finds herself. Of course, a lot of musicians would bristle at being stuck in such a position, but for Sudol it has allowed her to wander the musical landscape without expectations bearing down upon her. On her sophomore album she shifts seamlessly from dreamy alt-folk ("Swan Song") to retro-new wave ("Electric Twist") to Beatles-eque pop ("Happier"). Feist and Regina Spektor watch out!
