You Are All I See
by Active Child
Released: Aug 2011
Pat Grossi's intimate, falsetto-laced R&B-tronica (or "hymntronic," as he calls it) hovers in the same stratosphere as contemporaries James Blake, Bon Iver and How to Dress Well (who guests here on "Playing House"). The L.A. artist's sound rises miles above his city's polluted ozone, as he juxtaposes trained choirboy croons and nimble harp with synths that sweep through like a celestial wave. His debut as Active Child often sounds like Tangerine Dream sent to church on the moon, so when he incorporates hints of sensual R&B, like on standout "Hanging On," it adds a nice human touch.
